Loving Eyes Foundation has developed a novel solution for fitting spectacles to children with craniofacial anomalies.
Our goal, through developing, testing and implementing this technology, is to provide low or no cost glasses to children with craniofacial malformations worldwide.
This will allow their eyes to develop normally and ensure a brighter future for each of them.
CustomFit is our flagship program that is comprised of a series of steps and activities that outline the identification of patients, and the process and production to provide them with glasses tailored to their needs.
PATIENT ASSESSMENT & RECRUITMENT
Our network of pediatric eye care professionals help to identify and refer potential patients to LEF-affiliated optometrists who assess patients and perform the spectacle fitting
3D ANATOMY CAPTURE
Currently, we reconstruct prior CT scans to create a 3D model of a child’s head, for a designer to manually create eye glasses custom built for that child’s facial structure.
IMAGE ANALYSIS & CUSTOM SPECTACLE DESIGN
Using machine learning technology our software can identify the relevant anatomical landmarks important for ideal spectacle fit, termed critical fit points. The critical fit points are mapped onto a flexible digital spectacle model which that conforms to the child’s unique facial anatomy. The model is then manually reviewed to ensure a high quality and comfortable fit.
FRAME PRODUCTION & DELIVERY
The customized spectacle design is 3D printed using a material with personalized properties e.g. color, weight, flexibility, etc. The printed model is cured, finished and coated to ensure comfort and durability and is then shipped to the optometrist where lenses can be fitted into the frames with the most current prescription.
